Primed for Adventure…

Hello All!  Tiffany here.  I am T-2 days and counting, until I leave the good ol’ US of A for Continental Europe!  So, in preparation for my 5 week adventure, I have been testing our services to see how they will hold up to the wear and tear of a rather long bike ride.  Last week, I underwent the underarm wax–Jennifer made this a walk in the park.  Yesterday, I got both a SHE-lac manicure and pedicure–Kristin, rocked my digits with her mad mani/pedi skills! (Pictures will follow.  If you’re considering a SHE-lac, check out our new additions from OPI like: Are We There Yet?)  And today, for the grand finale, I got a Pretty Kitty and a full leg wax!  If you read my post last week, you know I was afraid to even wax my underarms.  So, imagine my chagrin when put to the task of waxing, oh, half of my body!

But, I had nothing to fear.  Char and I were able to keep a lively conversation going while she was quickly and methodically removing hair from my body.  She is a pro.  And, she has an excellent demeanor.  She talked me through it as we went, and gave killer advice like, “Try not to tense up,” and “Take deep breaths.”  Before I new it, an episode or two of The New Girl had come and gone on the television, and I felt like we’d had the kind of conversation one has with a friend over a cup of coffee.  Despite being newly, and almost completely hairless from the waist down, I found my waxing appointment to be quite the pleasant experience!  Char gave me thorough post waxing instructions, in light of the fact that I will be on a bicycle for five weeks (which requires specific road maintenance be involved) and sent me on my way with a smile!  I love that even something so daunting as bikini waxing can turn into something so fun at She She.

Next stop, Paris!

Wax Tracks

I am a She She Girl about to embark on an international adventure.  In the weeks to come, I will be blogging about foreign fashion, street style, odd customs, and trying to stay a little girly on a bike tour!  I will also be road testing our services here at She She including: body waxing and a SHE-lac mani/pedi, to see how they hold up under the duress of air travel, and a five-week trek through Europe, by foot & by bike.  This last week, I dipped my toe in the waters of waxing, and asked our lovely Jennifer (at She She Beauty Bar) to wax my underarms.

Now, I am a bit of a waxing wuss.  I am not exactly the type to gush nonchalantly about how easy it is to get waxed. I can get tattoos all day long, but somehow, I still fear the wax strip!  So, I entered Jennifer’s treatment room with a bit of trepidation, attempting to mask it with jokes, and a rather transparent bravado.  As she applied the wax to my underarm, I tensed, preparing for the worst.  And then, with the gentlest swipe, it was gone without the slightest complaint.  I hardly even noticed.  I now have beautiful bald armpits to sport around town!  Unafraid of the tank top, I am ready for the next adventure: waxing my lower half!

Love is in the Air!

I don’t know if any of you lovely readers have noticed, but it seems that as spring is springing, love really is all around!  Wedding invitations have been steadily appearing in the mail, and RSVPs have been sent. Now comes the tricky part: what to wear, and what to give!

If you want to veer from the beaten path of gift registries, there are a few things I’d like to recommend.  To get ideas for clever do-it-yourself gifts, I’d take a look at Etsy, they’ve got everything from clever little lego cuff links for the groom, to fun photo booth props for the reception!  Another great crafty website where you can find fun, funky gifts hails from the Great Northwest: Buy Olympia.  Here you can find limited edition screen prints for the happy couples you know, as well as humorous glass wear, and even t-shirts from independent artists!

As for what to wear, there are a few places about town which offer sweet, flirty, versatile pieces for all of your summer functions, not just those weddings!  A few local favorites are Kansas City Kitty, Cira, Tula, and White Balcony.  Also, don’t forget to check out our two boutiques for accessories to complete your look!  From delicate and feminine to chic and edgy, we’ve got something for everyone this summer wedding season!

Color Therapy

While the weather this last week has been trying to prove otherwise, the warm months of spring and summer are steadily approaching. The trees are suddenly in full bloom, reminding me that I love the smell of spring.   The plethora of fashion blogs have been lighting up with discussions of colors (Pastels, brights, neons! Oh, my!), and how to wear them. The wonderful folks at Refinery 29 discuss the perennial fear of purple; while Tieka over at Selective Potential falls in love with the combination of mint green and fire engine red.  So this She She Girl got to thinking: what inspires you?  What colors are you excited about seeing, and wearing more of, now that spring has sprung?

The Wonderful Wedge!

Ah, the Wedge!  Salvatore Ferragamo’s gift to walking women everywhere.  Ever the pragmatic choice when it comes to fashionable footwear, the wedge offers a varied range of heel heights (from the modest kitten to the teetering stiletto), while providing a stable platform upon which to comfortably navigate your streets, or office halls!  The S/S ’12 runways witnessed the return of the open-toed wedge; from Christian Louboutin’s classic cork and animal print, to Cole Haan’s strappy yellow-suede mule.  From Burberry Prorsum’s basket-weave, to Charlotte Olympia’s catchy colors and throwback prints; there’s something for every kind of style maven this season!  And, what better way to take this sassy shoe to new heights than with a perfect pedicure from She She!

It seems like the orange lip is finding it’s way back into the hot trends for the warmer seasons.  This She She Girl isn’t necessarily game for bold coral hue on her pout, but that doesn’t mean she won’t sport it on her fingers and toes!  Pantone has made Tangerine Tango their color of the year; if you want to try the trend why not come get  a Shellac Manicure with OPI Gel Color in Cajun Shrimp?
